practical help
Our Outreach service helps people with mental health
problems to access the advice and local services they
need. We can help with areas such as benefits,
financial and debt advice, housing, accessing services
including social work teams/mental health
teams/GP/counselling, support for appointments, help
in speaking to other organisations etc. We also have
our own eight flat supported housing scheme.
This service can be provided in your own home or at our
office, and we can also accompany you to provide support at
appointments etc.
There’s a wide range of issues we can help with including
rehousing, homelessness, accessing funds to set up a new
home or to replace essential items such as cookers, repairs by
your landlord, immigration, accessing services including
social work teams/mental health teams/GP/counselling,
support for appointments, switching fuel bills and practical
support such as explaining letters/making phone calls/writing
emails/arranging appointments etc.
We can provide help with claiming all benefits including
Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Personal
Independence Payment (PIP) and Universal Credit (UC)
(including Housing Benefits, Council Tax etc that are now
included within UC) and check that you are receiving all the
benefits you are entitled to.
In addition to help in completing forms we can also help with
appeals against benefits decisions, including attending
appeal tribunals with you.
We can also provide advice on managing your finances,
budgeting, debt etc. We are registered with the Financial
Conduct Authority (recognition number 754680) to provide
advice on debt.
This means that we can advise you on managing repayments,
including negotiating with companies you owe money to, or
challenging companies who may have not taken into account
your mental health issues when selling you products or
services.
We are able to obtain Debt Relief Orders (DRO) for individuals
with debts of up to £30,000 with assets worth less than
£1,000. A DRO can effectively write off a debt - contact us for
more information on whether it would be right for your
particular circumstances.
